KanCare immunization billing change

Jen Clark • May 08, 2024

KanCare is changing how immunizations are billed to its MCOs June 1st, 2024!

During the pandemic, pharmacies were set up to bill immunizations as a DME provider type. Now that pharmacists are considered providers by Kansas Medicaid, immunizations are moving to being billed under a pharmacist provider type!  While this does create some hassle now, once pharmacies make the move, other non-dispensing clinical services such as test & treat services can also be billed under this provider type. All adult Medicaid immunizations, including flu shots, will be billed to this provider type.

How to make the move to continue serving your KanCare patients:

For more information and resources to support this move, including a detailed how-to guide published by Currus, please check out the KPhA Clinical Services Credentialing and Enrollment page! Our director of practice development, Amanda Applegate, is available to assist with any bumps along the way - don't hesitate to reach out to her!

Please note that this does not change how pediatric immunizations are billed for KanCare children - these vaccinations are a different funding source and are required to go through Vaccines for Children sites. Find a VFC site near you to be able to refer patients for their vaccinations, or apply to become a VFC site with Amanda's help!
